Default Recall on driverside electric windows

Just received letter on my 2007 tundra about recall on electric door panel switches for windows causing fire.

Anyone else get a letter on this?

Yep. The dealer removes the switch and inspects for any sign of excessive resistance or burnt contacts. If neither of these is present, additional grease is applied to the switch to prevent it from sticking or wearing abnormally. If there's any suspected issues, the circuit board is replaced. Simple fix for a potentially serious issue. Get it done!!!

Great info Mike! That could possibly be a simple thing for any DIY'er to do.

Has there been any news of any door switch fires? I'll have to wait until I eek out of the last stretch of my powertrain warrentee (April 2014). My crazy "warantee voiding mods" are too much to "take off and hide" in case they document "what they see"..-LOL

Toyota actually states that the DIY person is what is causing the fires, due to using an incorrect lubricant on the switch. The "grease" Toyota supplies is extremely expensive ($330 / tube, about the size of a small tube of toothpaste), and is manufactured to not only act as an extreme dieelectric grease, but to be waterproof, and lubricate the switch contacts without gumming up or sticking for the rest of the vehicle's life. Plus, the grease is actually applied to the internals of the switch via a special syringe in a special procedure that applies it to all contacts and slides. Afterwards, one-way screws are installed to deter anyone from tampering. Your best bet is just to take the vehicle in and have it done...they don't charge anything, and it's your safest bet.

As far as fires, I believe there has been a few, but as far as I know all of them have been caused by someone using their own lubricant on the switch contacts. That being said, I had to replace two circuit boards (out of hundreds checked) during this recall due to burnt contacts; neither of which was ever disassembled by the customer (or so they say). So it's very unlikely that you'll see a problem any time soon, but the threat is still there. As far as your unmentionables under the hood, I wouldn't worry. Most dealers won't even open the hood to do the recall (some might to top off fluids as a courtesy), and even if they do, it's very unlikely they would document anything to intentionally void your warranty; the only time they might document something like that is if your truck is in for a warranty concern that's directly affected by the turbo setup.
