Default Adding factory steering wheel controls to factory radio

Has anyone here added factory steering wheel controls? I swapped a steering wheel with controls and a head unit from another truck a few months ago, just getting around to doing the wiring. I've read the DIY from the TS forum (I think?) and after digging through all the pages it seems like it should be pretty simple. I started it today but after tearing the dash apart I realized I had the wrong size wire/connectors so I'll have to postpone it.

Ok, I've never done this before. Just going by the DIY thread from another forum that's has become WAY longer than it should've been. From what I understand, you basically have to run wires between two connectors. One from behind the glove box, the other plugs into the back of the radio.

This is what the dash looks like after removing the upper and lower glove box. The connector you're looking for is in the upper right hand side of the picture.

This is a closer shot. There are two connectors here, you want the lower one. It's called JK1. You'll have to remove some of the wire wrap/padding to get to the wires and back of the connector.

This is the connector that plugs into the radio. This one is called K3.

    Another shot of K3.

According to the DIY guide you have to connect:

-the gray wire from JK1 to pin 8 on connector K3

-light green wire on JK1 to pin 7 on K3

-the light blue wire on JK1 to pin 6 on K3.

I wired everything up last night according to these instructions and I'm glad to say it works perfectly! Now to figure out the Bluetooth...

Do you have to splice wires or do the wires come with the steering wheel?
    Is it worth it?
Could it be done in a day?

Most trucks are pre-wired from the steering wheel to the JK1 connector. You just have to add wiring between JK1 and the radio. You could splice into the wires going into JK1 but you'd still have to have the appropriate connectors to pin into the back of the K3 plug on the radio.

If you can get a steering wheel for a good price I'd say it's worth it. I definitely wouldn't pay $800 for a new one just to have the added convenience.

If you've never taken the dash apart before it might take you a few hours. I've had mine apart several times though so it was a breeze. If you're familiar with pulling the dash apart the rest of the work takes about 5 minutes. Steering wheel swap takes about 20 minutes maybe?
