    Default Wheel Stud

I'm in a predicament.. I broke one of mine wheel studs, and gotta replace it, but I can't get it out.... I've pounded on it, the last two days with no luck, I even spayed WD40, and other lubricants to no avail... I'm at the edge of taking it in to the dealer and having them replace it... Any other tips on how to get this off, and its broken to the edge of the threads, so the lug doesn't stay on... Thanks in advanced.

If you have hammered it, you probably mushroomed the stud, and why it wont come out now. You can take cutting wheel or recipricating saw and cut the threads at the hub, and then take a punch and hammer, and hammer out at that point... will probably come out much easier at that point.

Yup, cut her down as flush as possible then soak it with a little gear oil and let it sit for a while then take a large center punch and a single jack to it.

If that doesn't work, drill a 9/32 hole, about 1/2 inch deep exactly in the center of the stud. Use a 1/4 punch to punch it out. If you still are not able to move it, drill the hole 1/32 inch bigger and try again. Repeat this until it comes out, being careful to only drill the stud and not the hub.

Drilling it out was my next idea since I didn't really wanna go that way, but I guess I'll have to...
Streetracin101- I haven't mushroomed it yet, I was cautious of this, so everything that I nailed it with was dead center, and it still wouldn't come out... my thoughts of this yesterday was that it was possibly pressed in, so I may need to get it pressed out...

Hitting it dead center will still mushroom it, and enough to keep it siezed in place... a 1/1000th of inch. You wont see that.

I had two of my studs break at the same time on the driver's rear tire. Dealership replaced them by doing what was mentioned above using a punch and a heavy hammer/mall to knock out the studs. I did the same back when I was on I-95 heading back to Rhode Island. Driver's rear broke off two and was stripping a 3rd. I was past mile marker 33 in South Carolina which is for charleston when this decided to do this. Doing only 40mph and it was wobbling good and had to every 20 miles tighten up what lug nuts I had to make it to the next exit. We get there and found a auto parts which didn't have the parts but he called another place 10 miles away and the gentleman there had the mall and a punch with 4 studs ready for me when I got there. He gave me a jack and away I went at it and I knocked 4 of them out in replaced in 15 minutes. I used the lug nut to pull the new stud all the way in and then put on the wheel. He also gave me antisieze so not to have that situation again. On the Tundra I guess I left a little tape when I painted the discs, which caused the two studs to break. Lesson learned.

alright, quick question... more like a dummy question, but is this what everyone's talking about?? Will an automatic center punch work the same?? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the delay in updates... Also I need to get this done, it seems the disk has shifted, and its scrapping on the brake pad...
