Default 08 Tundra having Electrical Issues

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 4x4 116K miles. Lately I've been having electrical issues that start with the dash totally losing power and engine cutting off. Had to tow it to the dealer only to pass all checks and start no problem there. I changed the alternator and again losing power to the dash cluster, alternator constantly moves from 1/2 to 1/3. The only thing that lights up on the dash is the "P" transmission gear position, all other lights off. All other electronics work, radio, lights, and windows. The truck will not start when dash loses power. And if it starts, no telling when it will die.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

14 volts is normal when the engine is running. Have you had this truck since new? Has it ever been flooded? I would remove the dash cluster and check for corrosion on all the connections. Also check body and frame grounds for corrosion. If you find corrosion on any connectors or grounds, clean them well and coat in di-electric grease. Please let us know what you find.

Have you checked the battery?? My battery died last year and was doing something similar where my alternator gauge would swing from a 1/3 to a 1/2. Check fuses if you haven't already. Mind the service light and the 2 TPMS sensors are dead.

Had the truck new since 07' it's my hunting truck. It does see snow, mud and occasional river crossings. I drive it about once a week, generally parked the rest of the time. So it make sense ground contacts possibly rusting up. I'll check that this weekend.

The dealer will check the condition of the battery when a vehicle comes in for electrical problems.
