Default 2007 Reg cab Tundra 5.7-water pump.

    Greetings Mighty Professor,

My truck was rear-ended on the freeway last Friday . It was a fairly hard hit but fortunately it looks like only bumper and superficial damage. The insurance adjuster looked underneath and said there was no frame issues. Today I went in for a routine oil change and learned I have a leaking water pump. Is it possible that the leaking water pump could have been caused by the collision?

    Thank you, Flo.

Get your cab mounts checked. They can be ruined, squeek, and cost you 750.00

I would have them check your cab frame bolt/grommets. I paid 700 to replace 1 after a dumb dumb hit my bumper and hitch with a borrowed Nissan POS, I meant P.U. After the bump, squeaked like a Mo. Toyo shop did a basic look see for damage. I took the "hit". Get that "no frame issues" in writing just in case.

As others have stated, it's possible that other things are damaged, but unlikely that it caused the damage to your water pump. These water pumps are notorious for their lack of longevity....my wife's 2008 Sequoia had one go bad at 85000. As a former insurance adjuster, I'd be surprised if the insurance goes for this...but, then again, stranger things have happened. As far as the 'no frame damage', the adjuster should have noted this when he inspected your truck, and it should have been put up on a lift, at the very least.
