    Default Brakes??

My 08 only has about 26k on it and it looks like I need brakes real soon. I was somewhat surprised by that. I do tow a lot, but that is mostly highway miles. How many miles did you 2nd gen guys get out of your first set of brakes?

    Hey Tony
26k seems kinda low. I think I was at 40 something when I changed mine (also an 08) but they weren't junk yet. I changed them for a more aggressive pad. The second set of pads I changed out at 105k (26k on an 08! Sheesh! You should drive that thing more)

I wonder if the "non use" is taking a toll...

There are probably several factors and I'm sure that it one of them. I also tow a lot. I'm still surprised because I usually get a lot of miles out of a set of brakes.

I'm at 74,000 on my 2010 but my Mechanic says I'll be close to 90,000 or so before I need brakes replaced. We tow about 4500lbs, 1000 miles a year to Canada and back but the rest of the time my truck does light duty.Everybody drives differently,I'm not one to leave it in "D" and shift with the gas pedal though. The Sequential Shifter lets ME choose which gear is best for load, road conditions and speed. I'n recent years,I've noticed carmakers including software to cause downshifting with a brake-tap while decending a grade. No matter the weather or road conditions, seems like, very few vehicle owner's will touch their shifter, except for P-D or R

I think my problem was mostly from non use. My truck sits for days at a time and that causes the disks to skin over with rust. This is harder on the pads. I only have 30k on my 08 and that translates to about 3-4k a year. By contrast, my 2010 Prius that was my daily driver had 150k when I did the first brake job on it.
