    Default 07, 5.7, dc 2wd transmission issues

    Hey guys, I'm having some transmission issues so I'm posting this looking for advice. I have 220k miles and the problems started about 1&1/2mo ago, It started slipping in first then it would catch all of sudden. It threw a CEL, code p0761. I Googled it and came up with the pressure control solenoid, so I changed that and it seemed to have moved to problem to 2nd gear. Checked the CEL again and I got a p0980 code this time.

    Only time I feel any issues are when I'm getting up to speed limit going thru 2nd gear. At highway speeds (cruzing) there are no issues. Except this last time I went from Vegas to California, about half way through I lost power and it started shuttering at 55mph, I stopped, reset the ecu and it drove normal til I reached my destination. Drove back the same day and it did the same exact thing around the same distance. I'm going to take it to Toyota hopefully next week, I'm just not very trusting in the dealership's where I live. If anybody has experienced this or anything like this I would appreciate any input. Thanks for your time!!


    Edit:I'm also getting a code for a leak in the catalytic converter

    Hey, I'm here!!! = this guy

    I do have to say that the codes should be taken care of first. Obviously if replacing the pressure control solenoid solved the P0761, then that problem is fixed so there's no need to worry about it anymore; the P0980 is most likely another issue altogether. It's very possible that you could have another failed solenoid. My first step would be to measure the resistance of the S3 solenoid, and if it's out of spec or borderline, replace it. The only thing I can't see this entirely fixing is your shudder, which is covered below...

    There is a TSB related to torque converter shudder in 07 models when upshifting between 20 to 45 mph, and downshifting between 45 to 60 mph. I have a hard time believing that issue would take 220K miles to show up, but it's not entirely out of the question though; especially if you used a fluid other than Toyota WS when refilling the transmission after the pressure control solenoid replacement. Seeing that the TSB is out there stating changes have been made to the torque converter, that tells me if yours is the old model, it may be very reactive to change, and may just be reacting to the change in fluid. If you used something other than WS, I would say change it out. Make sure to set the fluid level correctly also. Google TC018-07 for the TSB, and see here for my instructions for the DIY guru on how to properly set the level. Best of luck!!!

    Hey mike thanks for responding! ! Your info is right on!! It did say replace the s3 solenoid but nobody at the Toyota parts department knows which solenoid is the s3. They gave me a print out of all solenoids but I couldn't find it either. like u said, I did put different fluid in the transmission when I changed the pressure control solenoid. So I will read your diy and get it done ASAP. Thanks for your time mike!!!
