Towing - Wiring/Connection
Well, it's been some time since I initially said hello to y'all. But I'm back now with this question. I bought my truck used. But based upon the owner's manual, I think this issue is a factory made one. The truck has come with a 3 prong connection (yes, that's correct, I did say 3 prongs). The tow wires are "built into" the side wall of the driver side tail light. So, per the owner's manual, I have to pull the wires underneath the tailgate to make a connection. My problem is that I need to pull a trailer with a modern connection. I have spoken to the dealer and they seemed to be shocked by this notion. They were expecting a 4 prong connection. So I am wondering if any of y'all have experienced this. If so, how did you convert it to a modern connection? I have a 2000 2dr V6 with 8 ft. bed.

Re: Towing - Wiring/Connection
Ok...I saw the dealer. And I found out the 3 prong must have been the previous owner mod. I discovered that a 7 pin receptacle was hidden behind the bumper and that I need a connecting wiring harness and "outlet" for the trailer connection. Any recommendations on where I can find a harness kit. The ones I have found so far have plastic covers. I'd like to find one that has a metal "outlet" and metal cover if possible. I see that towing has several options - 4 pin and 7 pin and converters for 7-to-4 or "dual outlets".

First of all, does your trailer have brakes? If it doesn't have brakes, this is what you need to go from your 7 pin to a flat 4 pin

Re: Towing - Wiring/Connection
The wiring you're seeing is probably aftermarket, and I say that for two reasons;
1) It being tucked away under the vehicle somewhere
2) I don't believe the 2000 V6 came with a 7-pin connector.
To better understand what you'll need to complete the wiring and connections, I'll need to see a couple pics of what you currently have, and what you're trying to connect to.
