So, I am starting to look around at a DD/Tow Rig so that I can retire the tundra from the streets. I think the time has come where I throw in the towel on the tundra and leave it for a strictly off road truck. I just wanted to know what you guys thoughts were on some new trucks.

Here is a list of what I was looking at:

2003+, 4x4, regular cab, gas motor for all
Ford F-250 5.4 V8, maybe V-10
Dodge 2500 5.7 Hemi
GMC/Chevy 2500 6.0
2nd Gen Tundra 5.7

+/-'s of Ford:
Strong solid axles f/r
Decent looking truck
they are everywhere

-'s
Its a ford, never been a ford fan
5.4 power questionable

Dodge +'s:
Decent axles
Decent power
always liked the looks of Dodges

-'s
steering is junk = death wobble
trannys are junk
tend to fall apart (from what I have heard, not seen)

Chevy/Gmc +'s:
Like the looks
strong 6.0
ride is good
Decent trannys
bulletproof rear axle

-'s
IFS is GARBAGE

Tundra
+'s
Strong engine
good rear axle

-'s
Dont reall care for the looks
questionable trannys (early 2nd gens)
IFS is GARBAGE

So what do you guys think? Will be towing a gooseneck with my tundra on it, nothing more and some less. Need to be able to reliably get to where im going off road in the tow rig with trailer and truck behind in pull without getting stuck or breaking stuff. Opinions?

I'd go with the 2nd gen tundra but I'm partial!! After that I would probably go with the chevy, I had a dodge and it sucked and seemed to start losing power quickly, the fords look good but are way underpowered unless you go with the V10 or diesel.

I've pulled our wrangler with the '07 Tundra to the Sierras on a flat bed. Pulled great!
If you are on a little more of a budget check out city, county or state fleet trucks. You sometimes can get them cheap
try one of those used military places

All I can say is the 5.7 is worthy and tough enough to tow its little brother!

You might get used to the looks Todd, its not a bad looking truck at all actually. [thumbsup]

The one big drawback with buying a 2nd gen tundra is that they are only 3 years old at the oldest, so the prices are still high for those. And, I'd rather have a 2nd or 3rd model year of the 2nd gen because thats when the problems that did arise with the new 07s were addressed and fixed.
